He honed his skills at the National Academy of Design, Bethany College (earning a BFA), the California College of Arts & Crafts (earning an MFA), and the Jay Connoway School of Art. In 1941, he created the mural “Autumn Colors” at the Council Grove Post Office. Rogers taught at Bethany College, managed the Huntington Hartford Foundation in California, and headed the art program at Kansas Wesleyan University before settling in Ellsworth after returning to Kansas in 1966.
